Ex-IRON MAIDEN Guitarist DENNIS STRATTON On Passing Of CLIVE BURR: 'I Have Lost An Old Mate'
March 14, 2013Guitarist Dennis Stratton has released the following statement regarding the passing of fellow former IRON MAIDEN member, drummer Clive Burr, who died Tuesday night in his sleep at his home at the age of 56 after suffering from multiple sclerosis for many years:
"I am so sad that I have lost an old mate. So glad I saw Clive and [his partner] Mimi last year. God bless, mate. Now you can jam wiv Mooney [Keith Moon], [John] Bonham and all the other drummers up there. Our song. The greatest luv of all."
Clive joined MAIDEN in 1979 and performed on the first three albums — "Iron Maiden" (1980),"Killers" (1981) and "The Number Of The Beast" (1982). Prior to that, he was a member of SAMSON, the band Bruce Dickinson fronted before he, too, joined MAIDEN.
Stratton participated in the recording and production of IRON MAIDEN's self-titled first album in December 1979. He also appeared in the home video recording "Live At The Ruskin" in early 1980 (released in 2004 as part of "The Early Days" DVD set),MAIDEN's first video "Women in Uniform", the "Women In Uniform" single, some subsequent single releases, as well as in the band's first appearance on British TV ("Running Free" performed live on "Top Of The Pops") and the "Live!! +One" album.
